People are sensitive to price increases, even small ones, which makes prices sticky (and why companies prefer shrinkflation to raising prices). Because of this, I think companies are taking advantage of the fact that prices are expected to be rising now, in order to preemptively price in future increases and save on future losses of consumer goodwill.
