So the kid has been wearing out youtube this summer. He's been relatively involved in activities and it's been hot. But when he's home, he's camped out on the sofa. It reached a breaking point with his mom and I so I set up the parental controls on the router to "pause" internet signal to the smart TV and his tablet by my command or after certain time limits. About 11-11:30 AM yesterday I activated it. He milled around the house for a bit. When lunch rolled around he asked if I could un-pause it while he ate lunch. I relented.
After about 30 mins, I reengaged the timeout and waited. And waited. And waited. He blissfully kept watching whatever silly video he was on. I was perplexed, but busy and it was over 100 degs outside so I let it go
Come to find out, in his boredom, he'd found an old firecube, plugged it in and got it up and running enough to keep on keeping on. On one hand I was upset with him, on the other I was proud of him for solving the problem. Good work kid, you got one over on your old dad...
Now lets see if he can defeat network wide MAC filtering...

Awesome, but can't you just tell your kid no streaming, and he'll listen?

If I'm being honest the real answer is Most of the time. I think the fact that he likes to watch with his Bluetooth headphones on and he can't hear us (or chooses to ignore us) is as much of the issue as anything...
