Is the BART an easy and convenient way to get around the San Francisco area?

We are going in September and staying in a ABnB on the north side of Daly City.

I worked and lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for 10 years. Their Bart (Bay Area Rapid Transit) system is a good way to get around without a car. San Francisco is a beautiful city and their is a lot to see and do there. However, I've read reports SF is becoming trashy, crime ridden, smelly with increasing drug activity and many unsafe areas. Tourists are particularly vulnerable (especially to pickpockets) because they stand out and are not vigilant. Sounds like New Orleans. I hope this is not true. Be safe and careful. Please give a report here after your visit. I look forward to reading your comments. Thank you.

I moved out of the area three years ago and took BART to work there for ten years. It is pretty dirty and has tons of crazy people on it, but it still is a good way to get into San Francisco. Just be aware and not stupid and you should be fine. 100s of thousands of people take Bart every day.

I was in June. Between the BART and Uber I had no problems.

Thanks for all the responses. We rented a house that’s a 10 minute walk from a BART station. Between that and Uber, we feel good about the transportation situation while we are there.

There are two systems BART & MUNI. BART is more for intercity with widely spaced stops. MUNI is mostly within SF and run above ground outside of the city center. Buses fill in the gaps. A Clipper card works on BART & MUNI. Load a MUNI app on your phone to watch times and plan routes. Lyft is more popular than Uber. Getting around is super easy.
