It’s also different from the NFL in that everyone except college seniors are eligible to go back or go to college. The NFL contracts are pretty much set with each pick and teams usually don’t deviate much. MLB a player can get over his slot if the team wants to pay a premium on keeping te player out of college.

It’s happened too many times to count with LSU signees. Zach Lee was on campus registered for classes and in the bottom of the 9th signed with tge Dodgers for 5.25 million. He was the 28th pick in 2010. He got paid well over slot. Bryce Harper was the #1 pick that year and signed for 6.25 million.
