Must be a TX/LA/AR thing,
A Google search would dispute that. I can only speak from my experiences. In the 1990's I saw celebrations in Augusta, Ga; Chicago and Milwaukee (I had summer internships in those places.
So in fairness.. I dont know Jason Whitlock or much about him. But for him to say he didn't see any celebration outside of Texas before recent times makes me assume he didn't grow up in a black church or community.

He's lived in Indianapolis, MN, KC, LA, and now TN and he claims he never celebrated Juneteenth in all his +50 years of life, my wife is a 60 year old black woman and she never heard of Juneteenth until 2-3 years ago,

Yet you lambasted him because he doesn’t share a hive mind.

There were never any celebrations of Juneteenth in Chicago in the 90s or 2000s. This BS just recently started up here.
I'm in Chicago, have been for well over 60 years, and nobody heard of this until last year. ...and nobody knew what it was about at that time either. Hell, most still don't.
As far as most people know, it's just a late Spring/early summer Kwanzaa celebration.
