a grandfather was a sea captain with the rank of Commodore. admirals pay. Merchant Marine fleet out of Brooklyn during ww2. he is an example of how the mob pitched in during the war effort. they got it done at the brooklyn naval yard.
he and my grandmother were very connected and effective. she was president of the democrat women of naussau county long island.
power couple in those times.
my 4 and 5 yr old take was he was a scary thug. he carried weapons.
she was an angel.
Fwiw my dad was a pilot from 1936 to 1960.
cargo from India to China.
wounded over Italy 26th daylight mission.
flew a glider at Normandy for 82nd airborne.
not high rank.
later in career taught pilots.

Had an uncle that was a Grand Wizard in some social club that was pretty popular back in the day
