I know several people who downsized when their kids moved out. Sold their large house, built a customized smaller home and put a pile of money in their investment accounts. Some bought recreational land or camps. Some did it because they could. It is nice to reach the point in your life where you are debt free, have no money worries, and really don't care what others think about your business. Really is uplifting. Hope everyone gets that option.

Two years ago I built a house in Baton Rouge that’s 3500sqft on an acre and it’s just the wife and I. Thinking about selling it all and taking the equity and paying cash for something smaller closer to my ranch in Texas.
Problem is I like nice things and lots of space and my mortgage is 2.6% now.
