Also, I’m in favor of kids going to school year round. Take 2 week breaks at various times throughout the year but year round just makes more sense.

I’m in favor of year around school but I also don’t believe that it will move the needle in terms of performance. We operate in an antiquated Prussian education model that needs to change.

Making a 10 year old boy sit in a desk in a row for seven hours a day isn’t going to yield results.

Elementary kids shouldn't be in school 7-8 hours a day. That's absolute torture for many youngsters, I don't think its healthy.

This is absolutely true. Also, the curriculum we teach is complete dog water and basically useless to a vast portion of our population. In this day and age, we need to be teaching kids how to deal with their emotions more effectively, how to deal with failure, how to communicate in a proper manner for business and humanity both written and oral. How to manage tasks and time, basic math skills for life.

Yes, the entire model needs an overhaul. But I think it starts with year round school. So many kids lose ground just over summer, only for teachers to come back & have to spend the first 6 weeks of school getting everyone back on the same page. There’s also a lot that can be said about standardized testing. Teachers only teach for the test & it’s engrained in these kids minds all year that this test is all that matters.
