Not because he was some great defensive shortstop. The answer to the question who would go in for Thompson from last night is probably Nippolt.

You have got to be kidding me! Nippolt is the worst pick up we made this year! He has contributed absolutley nothing this season and hasn't shown to be a good fielder.He is an automatic out every time through the lineup just like Thompson. Also, if Guidry wasn't signed to replace Thompson ( please God ), why did he start the year as an infielder?

Minus the fact he has been a solid defensive replacement all year sure. I’m not saying he replace Thompson for a full game but if you were to pinch hit for Thompson Nippolt would be a solid replacement for him at short.
He isn’t as good as Thompson but Thompson is taken out in this situation.

Because second base was also up for grabs in the preseason. He got beat out by Dugas and moved to pitcher. Guidry is going to play infield for LSU next year and may very well be the shortstop but he hasn’t played there all season so I doubt he’s the first guy to replace Thompson THIS season.

Thompson has been an automatic out, even moreso than during the season. Almost as surely as he’s going to make plays that are MLB caliber and then turn around and boot an easy grounder in the same game.

Pretty much. Thompson is talented but inconsistent on the field and at the plate, which is disappointing for an upperclassman.

Thompson has 13 or 14 errors all year. He doesn’t really boot the ball around as much as the rant thinks he does.
