Weak analogy. We are talking parental consent

If your 11 year old wants to become Shrek, would that be ok?

Your position can be respected if consistent.

What if they want to lose a limb?

More weak analogies. We are not discussing cosmetic procedures or cartoons. We are discussing a medical procedure which has overwhelming support among the experts as treatment for a recognized medical issue. You just (think you) know more than the experts.

it is not particularly unusual for two deeply-held ideologies or beliefs to be in conflict with one another. Sometimes compromises are necessary. We cannot always be at ideologically pure. This is such a case.

For the record and for the thousandth time, I think it is entirely reasonable to preclude surgery for minor children, and even to preclude medical treatment younger than a certain age (puberty?).
