i like the change of pace--new setting, new weapons, and new maps on multiplayer. but that's all it is. call of duty 4 set in ww2. if it ain't broke don't fix it i guess.

still prefer cod 4 though.

Not dropping $60 on COD4: Jap Edition

I've played it at a buddy's house, an while fun, I just think it's COD4 with a skin pack basically. I still enjoy COD4, and I prefer my M16 with the ACOG, so I'm staying pat.

Plus I've already dropped a copious amount of money between Gears 2, Dead Space, and Fallout 3. I'm tempted by Far Cry 2 and moreso Left 4 Dead, but I think I'm going to have to pass. I dont think I'd have time to play them all.

CoD4 >>>>>>>>> CoD:WaW

It's fun to play, but the game play (online) is different. Also, the spawns in online play are ridiculous. Half the time it spawns you right next to your cornered team, and the other half it spawns you in front of multiple enemy players. Pisses me off.

You guys realize FPS shooters in a series that only change setting are usually the same right? Aside from bells and whistles, why change a working idea.

BF 1942, BF Vietnam and even BF2 were more or less the same exact game set in 3 different settings with improved graphics with each release.

Didn't make the games any less awesome

Normally.

But CoD:WaW is definitely less awesome than CoD4.

I found them to be pretty much the same.. Then again I was never all that enthralled with COD4, at least no more than with any other above average FPS

It's the same game, modded for WW2.. I've never experienced the bad spawns or an anything else I've seen it knocked for.

The bad spawns were in the Beta. I think they've fixed some of it for release.

I like both games equally. The only thing different is the weaponry.

Disagree about the bad spawns being fixed. Got respawned in front of enemy dogs twice in one game. Didn't even have a chance. Also respawned directly in firing line of an enemy tank once, and of course the obligatory spawn in the middle of an artillery strike today. However, I haven't yet respawned right in front of an enemy player yet, so that specific problem does seem to be fixed. Maybe I should try not dying so much...On a slightly related topic, saw a guy get 62 kills on a core domination game today...sick.

I bought this game for my son. Should I buy the book that goes along with it? If so, why?

what's the book do?

and how old is your son. i'm 31 and could have done without the extreme violence in the game.

I guess the book is a walk through, but I'm not sure.

well then the book might reveal where hidden stuff like the death cards are, and include multiplayer maps and tips but the basic instruction book is enough to teach you the controls and get you started.

you can unlock the perk at a high level and most of the marine missions in campaign have you using the flame thrower.

I love WaW, but it's not as good as COD4 was. I'm trying to get through the campaign on veteran and it's probably the most frustrating FPS I've played by far

I thought WaW was easier than CoD4. The sniper mission in CoD4 was entirely too hard. When it came to the part in the level where you have to defend against wave after wave of bad dudes while laying behind the ferris wheel, it took me probably over 100 tries to do it on Veteran.

That is the single most challenging level in a game I've ever played.

someone had the flame thrower the third day the game came out, looks pretty tight, but what do these people do for a living.
