What was it about Heavenly that made it poorly run?

General laziness and apathy from the employees that wouldn't fly in CO or UT.

The roads are incredibly icy. They don't use salt because of the lake, so it really builds up on the side roads that don't get plowed as often.

Clusterfricks in the lift lines that could easily be prevented with organization. The worst thing is, they shut the gondola (the only way up the mountain if you are staying in State Line) down if the wind is blowing too hard. Which I certainly understand, but that is like 50% of the time. They also shut down most of the lifts north of the line, so half the resort is unavailable, on an otherwise beautiful day.

The gondola is also the only way down. So if you stay all day you will be waiting in a line of 500 people to get to your place.

They have buses to take you to the California side. But it was like a 2 hour wait. So we lost a day there. Bluebird days when you can't get up the mountain are frustrating.

Same situation the next day, but we were able to find an uber. $100 for like 5 miles. This was the day I referred to as one of my favorites. It snowed from 12-4, harder than I've ever witnessed. The mountain started to clear out and we had the whole place to ourselves. Only 2 lifts were open and like 15 trails, but it didn't matter. Every run had untouched powder on it by the time we got up again. Getting knocked on my arse by 60 mph winds coming around a corner a few times. Reminded me of playing in hurricanes as a kid.

Reflecting on it now, if we stayed on the Cali side and never had to go anywhere else, I might feel totally different. So I guess that would be my advice to anyone going. frick that Gondola.

I thought skis and gravity handled that part for you.

I kid. Good to know about Heavenly. Have friends out in NORCAL and will probably ski some at Tahoe in the near future. Always talked about the views from Heavenly, but I'll probably focus more on other/better places. Squaw and such.

They like Northstar, but I've heard it's an awesome resort with okay skiing. Kinda like Deer Valley (?...never skied DV, just heard the reputation).

Haven’t been to Tahoe in 15 years but staying on Heavenly across the street from the stage coach lift on the Nevada side. Isn’t that the less trafficked side? My bigger concern is getting down mountain for dinner and such. Are the ride shares easy? We aren’t planning on bringing a car.
If you’re familiar with the area, do you have any advice. We’re staying at a condo there.
