Very true. The only way a study could show morals are not in decline is by ignoring the fact things that have been viewed as immoral since antiquity are no longer viewed as such.

The inverse is also true: things that were previously considered highly moral, like spraying little black children with fire hoses, is now significantly frowned upon. I don't know how you're inclined to view the grand scale of morality, but I'm happy to trade "we no longer lock people in cages for being gay" for "we no longer brutally murder people because of the color of their skin."

On second thought, both of those things seem like improvements...

What our culture considers to be pedophilia was accepted practice in ancient Greece and Rome. Slavery has been illegal for less than 200 years.in most of the world. Aggressive conquest of stronger countries by weaker countries was the normal and accepted practice until the middle of the last century.
