For some of these Vets with severe PTSD and/or multiple deployments, what the military should mandate is a 1-2 year reintegration program where they still live in monitored conditions, have structure and mission, but that mission changes from defense to education, family integration, community integration, self-care, not resorting to unsafe use of substances, all the while having full benefits of an active duty service member. Now, I'm not sure how you can mandate this after one has fulfilled his/her obligatory contract -- perhaps in some way make it so appealing that they'd be foolish to turn it down. Double their in-service pay, provide housing, food, transportation, education, healthcare in exchange for successful reintegration and incrementally meeting goals aimed at such.

Absolutely the frick not. Been through “decompression” several times. Total bullshite and would even argue it did more harm than good.
