Hurd was getting loose when Skenes was running into a bit of trouble in the 8th on Friday.

I gotta say tho the fact that the pitching staff outside of Skenes and Floyd was such a mess for most of the season you have a bunch of dudes in the pen that can do a lot of things.

Jay can just go into every game and pitch whoever he needs in whatever situation to win that day and then worry about the next day then.

The CWS is different. We won't have to play every day if we keep winning, so that is very important. Meaning that if LSU plays on Friday, they would play again on Sunday, and then again on Wednesday. If we win on Wednesday, we're in the finals.

You will see teams bring starters back as relievers on two days rest. I don't know if we will do that. You can win in Omaha with two good starters. Let's say Skenes pitches on Friday and Wednesday, and Floyd pitches on Sunday and the following Saturday. Hurd can come in for a few innings of relief here and there to make sure Skenes and Floyd don't throw too many pitches. We could have Herring or Coleman start if we lose any games and have to play extra.

My point is, we don't necessarily need a third starter and may be better off using our third starter as a middle reliever. I don't like Skenes pitching Friday and then Wednesday if he throws 124 pitches on Friday night. I think it's doable if he throws 80-90 pitches Friday night.

I actually like the idea of using one of the lefties (Coop, Ack, Herring, or Coleman) as the long reliever. We have two righties throwing nasty heat to start the games. Bringing Hurd in with similar stuff might be asking too much in Omaha. He was great against OSU because his breaking ball was filthy and he was throwing it for strikes. If he has to throw fastballs, it might not work out as well... One of the lefties would give a different look.

Just my two cents.
