Why wouldn’t they host at another field close to home that has enough hotel availability to meet requirements but still keep home field advantage?

I’m sure the special Olympics was contracted over a year ago.

Because they would have had to put in a Super Regional Bid before the tournament started and they didn’t. But I agree it seems like it would have been east to have it somewhere close by. It sucks for the team that made history and could of had a SR at their home park

Unless something has changed, that’s not how it works. Top 16 seeds host Regionals with the top 8 guaranteed to host a Super if they advance. Other schools have to bid to host a Super in the event a top 8 school gets eliminated.

It’s possible they could have put in a bid for a different location, but they would have had to negotiate all of those logistics before knowing they were going to be host team to begin with.
