As great as Crews is, he ended up not leading the nation in any major individual stats. He was 2nd in on-base percentage and top 10 in several other categories.

Not only did Skenes lead the nation in multiple categories, but he also led by a wide margin.

Strikeouts 167 to 138 and 124 for 2nd and 3rd.

WHIP 0.79 to 0.87 and 0.90 for 2nd and 3rd.

Ks per 9 innings 16.64 to 14.34 and 13.70 for 2nd and 3rd.

Stats shouldn't always be the deciding factor, but in this case Skenes is so far ahead of everyone else that the award should be his.
