Ryan Nielsen as Falcons DC

Early on, he made a difference in the effectiveness of the Saints D- Line, but seemed inconsistent over the past couple of years. Can he take a step up from D-Line Coach to calling the signals in Atlanta? Is he to be feared?

Frick him and the Falclowns.

He is a well respected coach with little to no experience calling defensive plays on his own at a professional level. I believe that if given the right personnel he will thrive. I have less faith the front office is good enough to provide the talent needed through the draft.

He is to be ignored.
The Saints staff can handle.

Then he’s doomed to failure where he is now.

I'm sorry, but in this league it is much more about the Jimmys and Joes than Xs and Os.
Andy Reid gets a lot of credit, but they ain't winning crap without Mahomes and Kelce and others.
If the other was true a lot of people would have wanted to hire Eric Bienemy...because of what he learned.

Nielsen's strength was teaching technique (attack & counter-moves, etc.), along with intense film study of opponent OL tendencies/strengths/weaknesses. Seemingly, every player he coached, at every level college & pro, experienced a career year of some sort.
It seemed like DL dominance dropped off concurrently when he took on more duties. There may be other factors like age, injuries or FA losses to account for the drop off, but I'm hoping he's one of those super position coaches who sucks as DC having to oversee a whole defense and looks lost with gameday play-calling.
