Its a ridiculous policy.

Yes, not actually intervening should be policy. Kids aint paid enough or trained to deal with that. Lots of liability for the employer.

Video tapping and reporting a crime being fireable?

At some point, you just want extra shrinkage.

I would absolutely agree if that's what they were fired for. They were fired for physically confronting and following them out into the parking lot, either of which could have gotten them killed or injured badly. There are just several people in here twisting the story to fit some kind of narrative.
