The fans that left are the "real" fans

Here's a theory: The fans that left early Saturday are the real, devoted fans that care about the football program. The team was mailing it in until well into the 3rd quarter. No one can honestly debate that. And as a result they were getting hammered by what, in the end, proved to be a decidedly inferior opponent. And they didn't appear to care. For the entire first half. There was no sign that players on either side of the ball were reacting to the embarrassment. What's a fan to do? Cheer loudly, and thus reinforce bad behavior? Doesn't seem reasonable. Boo? As many here have observed, that's not appropriate for amateur athletes. But by getting up and walkng out, the fans sent a message loud and clear that they, at least, weren't going to put up with the nonsense. I suggest that this did as much to wake up the team as anything that the coaches or the so-called leaders on the team did. The fans who stayed, well, good for them, they got to see a fun 4th quarter. But I suggest that perhaps they had no more impact on the game in the second half than they did in the first.
So instead of excoriating the fans who left, let's give them a big round of applause for letting the team know what they expect: an honest effort. The message was received and, with a little bit of luck and a lot of effort, the humiliating defeat was avoided.

I left with my 7 year old son who was freezing in the south end zone with 3 minutes to go in the 2nd qtr. I did not want to leave but when your son says "dad I'm so cold" you do what you have to do. Then he apologized when we got in the truck. He's a Tiger, but on the day the cold won out.

OK, for those of you who are incurable literalists. This is sarcasm. It is intended as a jab at those who have bloviated all week about the fans who left, which rants are no more on the mark than my first post.

Try watching a weather forecast and buying a coat.

They did it for the children sounds reasonable.

Damn, you were using sarcasm?
I was just about to introduce my 'we were just sandbagging' theory too.

Okay the kid was bundled up like a package, but was still cold. And I guess the last time I checked this was a free country unless Obama has turned it in to a socialist republic. So we left. I've had season tickets for 12 years now and I have missed 3 games. You guys need to get a life.

I had friends at that game, they 2 kids with them and they dressed for the game you moron. If you have kids i feel sorry for them. I don't but when a kid saids i cold then it is time to go. Just another douche bag "watch the weather" how about you not being an @@@hole

you could do like one guy who posted on here yesterday, who left early because his mother, 4 year old and 10 year old said they were to cold. He told him mom if she couldn't handle the cold to stay home, he told his 4 year old he couldn't come back till he was 8 or 9, and he told his 10 year old, next time you'll freeze, but we're not leaving early...
truly a father and son of the year candidate...
but i agree with you...

I've thought the same thing every time someone spins their bail out as "it was sooooooo cooooold". Dress based on reality, not fashion. How many games on tv showing the fans with blankets, face masks, etc. You even see the shirtless whopping it up amongst the bundled. You'd think some of our fans(?) would have enough anti-freeze in them to not feel a thing, but I digress.

I honestly think the fans leaving actually hurt Troy more than LSU. Have to think they have been looking forward to this game all season to show case their talents, but with a half filled stadium it sort of took away their motivation.
Granted they probably got a kick out of it comig back onto the field after half. Didn't Troy's coach even admit he was shocked.
