The original was outstanding. One of the few films to do its source material justice.

the new TCP will not win best picture. The newer Academy leadership and membership is about moving forward. If it is really good it may get the West Side Story treatment -- a nom and possibly a technical award. But unlikely.
And this year is stacked with the new offerings from Scorsese, Nolan, Ridley, Alexander Payne and Todd Haynes. Expect each of their films to get a nod for best pic.
