This isn't awful, if you can't stay in the park. I know how hard it is to get reservations, but I would say keep trying for cancellations and you have to do single days at a time. It is fabulous to stay in the park.
Also, that 30 minute drive can be much longer depending on the time of day. May sure you get started very early every day. The park is crazy busy in the summer. I would be in the park no later than 7 am.
