GOAT science fiction movie. The Beatles of Sci Fi movies. Kubrick was a genius.

Not the GOAT sci-fi for me but it's up there. I think if you cut out the first 15 minutes and the last 15 minutes, it's top 3.

That's funny.

Maybe the story isn't very good.

As I said, diffrent strokes for different folks.

It’s too artsy and lots of dull moments. The Hal9000 story was interesting, but even then, it had its long and drawn out moments.

If I had seen this movie when it came out, I’m sure I would feel differently. It’s without a doubt groundbreaking. But it’s a tough watch if you were born after 1980.

I've talked to multiple people who walked out of the theatres on its release.

Evidently, it was a cult film for people extremely high on drugs.
And it was a cult film for art fans who pretend to "get it".

Not at all. It's up for interpretation but it doesn't add anything to the story for me. Kubrick came out years later and offered some explanation but then was also like yea you can use your imagination. The beginning doesn't do anything for me personally either. It's just like ok come, let's get this over with and get to the actually story not just 15 minutes of apes beating rocks.

Like I say, it's a fantastic movie, but if I rewatch, I fast forward the beginning and skip the ending and it's more enjoyable. Not sure I can say that with any other movie ever.

To the contrary, the beginning sets up the entire plot. One mans theory of mans quest to advance. Great story line.

Kubrick's not the kind of guy to come out and tell you exactly what his movies are about. The beginning and ending are needed to see the full evolution of man, but its about more than just that.
