Maybe turn ur glove sideways squeezing when ball hits or dare I say use 2 hands in that situation. Would hate to pull an Arkansas in post season.

Hate to be the old timer, but players and coaching have gotten away from catching routine fly balls and securing the catch with the throwing hand.

The most important thing about this discussion is what Thompson would say...he would absolutely say he should have caught the ball! Forget any circumstances surrounding the play

I thought the first one must have been knuckle-balling. That can happen but it is unique set of circumstance that would cause that on a batted ball
Put unless there is some light interference at that specific angle, I don't see how two knuckles in a row could happen.
Any thing else could explain the?? certainly they are good enough to make that play twice in a row 99.99 % of the time.
and certainly the odds of 2 different people making the same stupid play on back to back plays is astronomically impossible.

That was my impression - before it came out I thought he was sort of grabbing at it with thoughts of walking off the field in celebration.
I think that one - if not a knuckle - was inattention
But that doesn't explain the second one.

Dude shut up with the “catching a ball in the heal of the glove”. Under NO circumstances do you do that on purpose. But I guess you played left end of the bench in tee ball.
Based on the number of downvotes, confirms a lot of LSU baseball “fans” don’t know shite about playing baseball.
Caught up with the semantics. It’s not really ‘catching the ball on the heal’ but I can relate with the thought process. It’s more, ‘not catching the ball at all’ and certainly not deep in the pocket. Middle infielders are often trained ‘not to catch the ball’ and it’s why we work for weeks in Winter/Spring training with only pancake gloves (flat with no pocket at all).

"all fielders" means outfielders too. Morgan has come close to dropping a few because of one-handed catches when he was standing still.
