are under represented in STEM programs/jobs. How can we increased their numbers? Lower the standard? My news just told me they lack the resources and educational opportunities. Idk.

Nah, they have plenty of opportunities. They just don’t take advantage of them because they lack guidance, for the most part.

Can .. can you take this to politics?

Because this is just a bait thread

Let's be real, the answer isn't going to be solved on a messaging board.

They have the same resources and opportunities as everyone else, arguably better. They also have a job market catered to hiring them. This is a fallacy that is all about feelings and emotions.

How do you lower the standards of nature?

Just seeing what the opinions are on the subject. I was told I could be anything I wanted to be in life.

Nature has little to do with it on a large scale, particularly when race is considered. This fact is proven regularly.

It is interesting to me how Asians come to this country, many from absolute shitehole countries and destitute poverty, go to the same ghetto schools as many of our citizens, graduate at the top of their classes and end up being engineers, doctors, high level managers, etc. Culture and family go a LONG way, much further than any government program.

BTW not just Asians, black africans are another example

I've observed a lot more black people and women in STEM over Hispanics interestingly enough.

But the ones that are in are making huge leaps and bounds. Just look at the two New Orleans girls who debunked thousands of years of scholars thoughts on the Pythagorean theorem.

Making blanket statements isn't useful. There are successful black Americans, most who come from a family that values education, discipline, and accountability. These families and people exist in the inner cities, too.

You don't hear about them because they disprove many of the myths that the media and the political machine want to feed you.

I'm talking about the language in STEM fields that describes nature. It is what it is. You can't lower them or raise them. They just are. If you are tasked with summing the forces in a beam you either know how to add and subtract or you don't. There is no lowering the standard to find the sum of forces in a beam.

This is an excellent point, if all you read is the New York Times and Huffpo and watch CNN and MSNBC you would think that all black citizens in this country are poor and ghetto and that this country is 1 republican president away from re-instituting slavery.
What our mass mainstream media does to us is absolutely remarkable.

I had a friend at LSU that came from Bangladesh. His family was homeless at first and his parents ended up with steady jobs at a grocery store. I’ve never met someone with a work ethic like him, if I had that work ethic, I’d be a billionaire by now.

STEM is hard.
Certain demographics shy away from difficult things.
