The gas first used for first crank at the station would be from the gas line from tank to engine. Also wouldn't cause engine to turn over slowly. Sounds more electrical. Check battery terminals. Not a mechanic but have slept at a Holiday Inn Express.

Correct the gas used would have been in the lines. If it was slow spinning then it is electrical, if it was slow to start but spinning normal speed then it could be something else.

OP how close were you to running out? If you were really close to being out that could explain the slow starting because you actually ran out the second you turned it off. That would of course be very unlikely to happen at that exact time.
