find analogous to our "branding" plight
I think a good example is the Artemis sorority person on the OT currently. It's a dude, everyone can see it's a dude, all the while it is saying its a girl as it runs around with a boner in it's leggings. It is ULL, it has been ULL since 1999. Yet it keeps trying to come out as Louisiana so people think it's the flagship of the UL System. I still don't understand why when given the opportunity to change their name USL didn't go with The University of Acadiana, well know why the school has been trying to be 'Louisiana' since the 80's, that aside though Acadiana Ragin Cajuns works. The reason I've heard for UL vs ULL is they don't want to be associated with ULM, Acadiana would have achieved that and ULM could have stayed NLU. I prefer to just call them the Cajuns because that's doesn't seem to ruffle any feathers. I've seen the back and forth on here all through the years, and if memory serves the institution agreed to be ULL and even agreed to not try and remove the L in any official capacity or branding. Sounds like the branding plight is call us what we want even though we said we wouldn't try and make people call us this.

“Louisiana” is for athletics. Just like Nevada-Reno branding itself Nevada Wolfpack.

When people from out of state (I travel alot for work) ask me where I graduated from, I say “Louisiana-Lafayette”. If it’s someone from Louisiana, I just say UL because everyone from Louisiana these days, whether they like it or not, knows what ‘UL’ means.

However, if talking sports with those out of state folks, the vast majority of them these days know what “Louisiana” means and what school it’s referring to, especially if they’re from the part of the country that has a SEC, Big 12, CUSA, Sun Belt footprint. Granted having an actual Top 25 relevant football team finally within the past few seasons greatly accelerated that recognition.

It’s an athletic branding just like Nevada, an MWC program. Plain and simple as that.
