Why do criminals shoot at the police???

I'm talking about at the end of a chase....or....
When they are in a house and surrounded..... or.....
When being approached by the police on the street when they already have a weapon and are threatening innocent people.
I understand that many have mental health issues and some just don't want to go to prison or want suicide by cop.
But, seriously...all of these chase videos end with some dumb-arse shooting at the well armed police.

Most of these people aren't too smart to begin with or they wouldn't have done what led to the police standoff. Expecting an increase in mental capacity at that point has the same odds as winning the lottery.

Same reason they vote for democrats. Cause and effect does not compute. They want consequence free decision making and they have been told they can have it.

My cousin went through a period of severe depression. After an unsuccessful suicide attempt, he went to the police station and charged at the officers with a knife. They wrestled the knife away and took him to the hospital. He was treated by a very capable psychiatrist and has had no problems since. I appreciate the way the police handled the situation.
