Considering the poverty level, I am confident the crime rate was incredibly high as that is the true cause of crime /sarc

Only due to the overall well-being of people in the US, do we have have time to worry about "micro-aggressions", pronouns etc. People who are truly struggling and oppressed don't have time for such meaningless crap

Family and communities were never closer. 10 people to a house, everyone relying on each other throughout the town. That's why we'll be much worse off in a new depression. We don't have that togetherness and trust.

/sarc noted.

There were many hoboes at the time - We spent a few years in town when we moved on to 3rd st in Leesville to open a boarding house. My mom was an excellent cook - and the hoboes found out they could get a good meal by stopping by. I remember when I wasi about 6 yrs old that I noticed she always gave them a "task" to do while she fiixed them something to eat.

I once asked her why she had them do those things, because they were usually something that I would have done if it needed doing right then. She said she always had them do some work for their food ==> "that way they'll feel like they earned it." A message I carry to this day.

The hoboes were polite and never caused any trouble.
