This thread today on the OT got me thinking - Copper Miner Thread on OT (Bloomberg article)

Expert projections for a major supply-demand shortfall (i.e. supply will not be able to meet future demand). This would in turn increase copper prices and assumingly be a boon for stocks of copper miners. At face value (disclaimer - I have done no research yet) it seems like a good long term opportunity.

Curious if anyone has investments in some of the bigger miners like Freeport, BHP, Rio Tinto, Glencore, etc. or experience in this industry. All four of these companies appear to have hit ATH's in 2021 or 2022, but are down slightly off those highs.

I really like BHP. They’re one of the biggest metals miners in the world including copper - have relatively low debt and are paying around a 9% yield.

They may take a shot during a full recession but mining is a beaten up sector and the need for metals isn’t going anywhere.

Also…they’re at best sideways for the last two years.

I’m heavy in a small Canadian miner TGB. Great prospects but the slimy progs at the EPA are holding up a permit that would triple their stock price overnight. There will be a huge copper crisis once economic conditions improve.
