I'm guessing that they are banning the medspa approach which is using compounding pharmacies who are sourcing semaglutide from labs and making their own instead of ordering the trademarked $$$$ Wegovy from Novo Nordisk. The medspas around Houston are offering it for $100/shot (which is still expensive compared to DIY) but way less than Wegovy. So LA officials are just trying to protect a pharmaceutical company's profits by banning the compounded versions of it.

Nah man. There is a lot of state and federal pharmacy law regulating Compounding/repackaging ANY commercial drug, not just expensive brands for very good reasons.

The practice is only allowed for certain drugs in extreme shortages and subverting repackaging/patent law to sell through weight clinics risk violation of some federal and state pharmacy law if they aren't careful. Especially if they are using the non approved sodium salt of semaglutide which is not FDA approved and also isn't in short supply. Like most of them are doing.

Legal & Regulatory Developments in 503A Compounding

The manufacturer created that shortage by repackaging their starter box and launching Wegovy and that slowed supply down. The greed and prices of these products is shameful and I'm not defending that. You say the law protects pharma profits, but allowing clandestine compounders in a gray area all cash pay market using ingredient source/sellers that are knowingly profiting from subverting US patent law is insane and a risk to public especially for injectable drugs. This exact scenario is literally what compounding/repackaging laws exist to prevent.

The clinics in Houston you mentioned are going to be made to stop because novo is suing the ones selling the ingredient and will easily win.

LABoP is a very strict enforcement Board they will definitely squash any compounding with the semaglutide sodium salt. They will take separate action on the pharmacy and the pharmacists and will publish it in their legislative newsletter. Whatever profit they made the LA board will destroy with fines.
