I read the other day Gene R. didn’t get paid for his royalties on any ST stuff until TNG debuted in the 90’s.
Gene would ask “where is the money?” and the studio claimed ST was not a profitable franchise
When TNG was green lit, his lawyer snuck language in their new contract saying “Gene has the right to audit the financials of Star Trek”….. Studio assumed it meant only TNG…. Lawyer intentionally left it broad so he could retroactively review ALL ST properties. And that forced the studio to FINALLY pay Gene all of his royalties.

Damn that’s crazy.
