If graduation is in May, and you divide births every month just about even... it leaves 7 months to 5 months (so even factoring people held back).. odds would be above 50% on a general median standard.. I know that we had a graduating class of about 125 and maybe 50 were 18

Most people are definitely 18.
With a cut off in September if you were born from September-April you'll be 18 at graduation.
That leaves those born May-August at 17 for graduation.
8 months of birth compared to 4 months of births. Probably gonna have more students in the Sep-April group compared to the May-August group.
