Not getting Jarred Vanderbilt may end up being what sinks us

If we had been able to pull off a deal for him then I’m not worried about Zion getting back quickly near as much and he provides that speed/rim protection we so desperately need. Having him go to the Lakers was just a further kick in the nuts. We could have made a good run at this year with him even without Zion IMO. He and B.I. feel like they would play well with each other.,

The Pels put in a solid offer according to Zach Lowe but never really had a chance.
The Jazz got the most value from the Lakers because an important part of the deal that would have been hard/expensive for the Pels to pull off was moving Conley. People keep talking about Westbrook's contract like the Jazz did the Lakers a favor not charging more to take it. Westbrook's large, expiring contract was the key to giving the Jazz what they were looking for.

I wonder what our offer was for him. I’m sure it involved Jaxon and draft picks but I’d be interested to know what the exact offer was.

Zach Lowe said it was a significant draft pick. Maybe not as good as the Lakers pick but not far off in value. The difference is the Lakers could also help the Jazz get Conley off the books. I don't remember everyone that was involved, but for the Pels to make it work you'd have to have expanded the the Graham to Spurs trade and paid them more to take Conley too, include Temple, Billy, Jaxson and maybe Kira too for money, and not get Richardson.
So good 1st, Jaxson, Kira to Utah
Future 1st and multiple 2nds to Spurs for taking Graham and Conley
To get back Vanderbilt and Beasley.
Beasley BTW is shooting 35.7% from 3 on the season and 35.1% for the Lakers. I'm sure he helps the spacing, but I'm not sure he's good enough to pay $16 million a year for. So he probably becomes a rental for all of the assets you sent out.
When Utah made it about more than Vanderbilt/Beasley it just got more expensive than it was worth.

Im sorry but not giving up a lightly protected 1st for Lauri Markkanen in a sign and trade was the biggest error. The front office really thought Jax was going to be special. Here we are with the same problem as lonzo.

Understand that completely and agree from a business sense. The basketball side would have been a perfect fit though. I hope we target someone if that skill set in the draft since we are losing g Jaxon and Billy. Jonas’ clock is ticking as well. He might only have 2 more years of solid starting double double machine left. He plays that call 5 role very well. Wish he would have gone anywhere but the Lakers.
