As a parent of a child in a school shooting, (my child was un injured) in the early part of the century in the state of Tennesee, I feel I can speak to this from the view point of experience. My child was 14 years old when the shooting took place.
She is a well adjusted adult, with different political and religious views than my own. She is, and was at the time of the shooting gay. She is a conceal carry permit holder, votes democratic, but because of our ability to respect each others opinions, we remain a loving and caring family. She understands that the weapon used was not the cause, and can easily assign blame to the mental state of the person who decide to bring the weapons to the school. I can only hope that eventually, as a society we all view these events as clearly as she is able to.
