They would like you to pay for their service, as their terms of service dictate.

Hulu is probably the biggest enforcer (mobile devices and "TVs" to include Roku are not treated the same.) Hulu wants not just your IP address, but also your specific location. At least with Hulu, you can pay for multiple screens. Paramount Plus is next. It won't stream even on a computer unless you permit the app (which is just MS Edge) to show you ads. Sorry dudes, I paid for your service for a reason. Amazon Prime doesn't seem to care much. Netflix probably falls in the middle.

When you say you're not talking about Netflix or "huge companies" I'm not sure who is left.
