Have any of you eaten at Osteria Francescan in Modena, Italy? My wife and I will be dining there this Saturday night. Any suggestions on the food al a carte or should we just do the tasting menu? Our first meal in Italy this trip as we go through Tuscany and finish in Florence.

I have. Do the tasting menu. If you’re going to the best restaurant in the world, trust that Chef Massimo has prepared the right menu.

We didn’t do the wine pairing, but that’s entirely up to you. We started with a glass of champagne and bought a nice bottle of red which we enjoyed throughout the meal.

Edit: If you’re in Modena, get a lunch reservation at Hosteria Giusti. Gnocco fritto as an appetizer. Thank me later.

Wasn’t lucky enough to get to Osteria Francescan but we went to Franceschetta58 which is like the minor leagues for it. They had some of the things that are on the tasting menu there and they were amazing. I think you should for sure do the tasting menu.

Modena is an amazing town, I loved every minute of being there.

Post a review after dinner.

Will do. We are flying out of DFW tomorrow (Friday) afternoon, arrive in Bologna at noon. Will take the train for dinner to Modena. We are spending 9 nights in the southern part of Tuscanny (Assisi, Montepulciano and Volterra), then 5 nights in Florence. Can't wait.

I've been twice. Did the tasting menu with the wine pairing the first time and we ordered al a carte the second time. Really can't go wrong with either choice, but I suggest doing the tasting menu. It's a fantastic experience. Kick back and enjoy it.

I wouldn't say minor leagues. It a hell of restaurant. I would look hard at Pomposa as well.

Bologna

Also a great town. The university is really awesome to walk through and see the old medical and law school. We did a food walking tour in Bologna that was awesome if you have time for it.
