Why A&M? We have better baseball history with Ole Miss and Arkansas than A&M. I can agree on MSU.

Would be interesting to see who Arkansas got. They could draw LSU and Texas which has 12 combined championships… currently.

Just a guess. Birmingham seems to think LSU and A&M are big rivals.

A&M: Texas, LSU
Texas: A&M, OU
OU: Texas, Missouri
Missouri: OU, Arkansas
Arkansas: Missouri, Tennessee
Tennessee: Arkansas, Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt: Tennessee, Kentucky
Kentucky: Vanderbilt, South Carolina
South Carolina: Kentucky, Florida
Auburn: Georgia, Alabama
Georgia: Auburn, Florida
Florida: Georgia, South Carolina
Ole Miss: Miss State, Alabama
Alabama: Ole Miss, Auburn
Miss State: Ole Miss, LSU
LSU: Miss State, A&M

History...

Beating #1 A&M in their regional in 1989 to make it to Omaha was the event that signaled Skip Bertman's LSU program had "arrived". LSU came through the loser's bracket (back when regionals were 6 teams), had to win twice on the final day. A&M was 58-5 on the year, and had won their regional games to that point 23-3, 25-4, and 17-6.
LSU won the first game with Ben McDonald as the starter, and won the 2nd in extra innings, with Ben coming back to pitch the last couple of innings.

A&M was considered so good that season, the final polls still picked them #2 behind national champ Wichita State.
