yes. if you havent played with high level amateurs lately you would be shocked at how far they drive it nowadays. i played college golf back in the mid 2000's and am not a short knocker by any means. We played with some of the Michigan guys on Saturday and they were outpacing my drives by 30+ yards. they were greenside on 1,2, in the greenside bunkers and greenside on 6, in the greenside bunkers on 10 and drove the green on 14. it's insane how far these kids hit it. i asked their coach where their swing speeds are averaging and he said on course around 123-126 which is on par with top level pga speeds.

with that said, they cant shape shots for shite like us who used to rely on shaping shots and keeping trajectory lower. these kids just bomb it as far as they can now with no concern of course management. it's a completely different game now on that level.

You are absolutely right. I watched a few of the college matches on Golf Channel and they bomb it off the tee then hope to have low iron/wedge in. Most cannot putt nearly as well as they should.

Oh trust me, I have. I can nuke a ball and they pound it past me. Still, I don’t understand the protect the course idea. Who cares what they shoot if they’re competing against each other?
