My post started with “Crews is outstanding, but I don't feel he has surpassed Todd Walker yet. He could with a great year (and he sure is on the way)”.
I said this even though I noted he might not beat some of Todd’s statistics, because, I think you’ll agree, statistics do not tell the entire story, but they are important.
Perhaps I wasn’t clear. Crews is an outstanding player with great potential. My point is for me to judge him a greater Tiger player, I will wait until his career is over. That is why I wrote “yet”. And many factors go into the “Greatness equation”, including as you point out the level of pitching, baseballs, bats, and many more. But it’s not a cut and dried equation, so everyone will have their own factors and weighting of those factors. The point about the BB to me is I think it could be more significant than the better pitching now as far as Dylan achieving statistics comparable to Todd’s. If Dylan is walked over once a game (his current rate), then that will markedly affect his career totals of hits, RBI’s, 2B, HR, and, in my opinion, more so than the current pitching differential. However, there is no way to quantify exactly how each of those factors will effect Dylan’s final career stats. We will all make our own judgments. And to repeat, I feel Crews is well on the way to being the greatest LSU baseball player over, and if his current level of play continues the rest of the year, then I don’t think anyone would disagree, regardless of how any of us construct and compute the “Greatness equation”.
