That’s fair. But let’s be honest, the job was not a very attractive gig at the time. And most of us were pumped that we were even able to get somebody of McMahon’s caliber. The hate of his hire, while certainly warranted currently, is a lot of 20/20 hindsight.

Be honest—did you think it was a shite hire at the time? I recall the consensus was that it was a pretty good hire at the time under the circumstances.

What? We are throwing out millions and millions of dollars to get the best coaches we can in all sports. Tate made it very clear when he was hired how important sports are to the success of the entire university. He saw how Bama’s football success drastically increased their out of state enrollment.

Maybe Woodward simply whiffed on his evaluation of McMahon and threw money at the wrong guys. But he certainly didn’t go cheap. Nothing he’s done shows he’s not 100% committed to winning at the highest level in all sports. He may have whiffed. It happens. But Will Wade is not the only coach in America that can win at LSU. And if McMahon proves he’s not one, I have no doubt Scott will shite-can him and throw more money at someone else. But they’re gonna give him more than 1 season.
