The title of Barrie's theatre play was "Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up"
Peter is no longer a lost boy. He grew UP, and looks exactly like what a man with a wife and two kids could look like. His appearance changed so much that even he doesnt recognize the boy in him, when he looks in a mirror
Thats the whole point of the movie

doesn't change the fact it was always portrayed by a woman until robin williams. I know how concerned this board is with gender or race swapping.
