I have a cousin that teaches middle school in public schools in the River parishes. She’s won teacher of the year at some point (I say this to show that she actually cares). Early-mid 30’s, should be hitting her stride in her career.

Every time I see her she is absolutely beat down. She said she spends her days sending out resumes to get a job in one of the local plants. It’s apparent that they aren’t allowed to teach any more, it’s all teaching to the standardized tests. Also, it’s impossible to discipline. If there’s an issue the kids get half a dozen+ chances with each step involving notifying misc administrators or parents (who don’t care) to be sure there isn’t something else holding the kid back. No, he/she is a piece of shite and needs to go. But you can’t do that. Imaging dealing with that x10 per class.

F them kids and parents and the system.

I can appreciate teachers putting up with any manner of retarded fricking parents, including the instagramming 30A mommies in the most desirable of hoods that bought their precious phones in 2nd grade, to the absent dads in the poor hoods. They produce non functional classrooms.

However, the people that chose this are largely women that work in the classroom, the administration, and the school boards, even in reddish areas. They vote, and they get what they asked for. We can start with mainstreaming of kids that need goddamned earpro in a fifth grade classroom otherwise they start beating themselves and screaming. "Everyone needs to feel included" can FOAD. Maximum learning needs to be achieved according to the capacities of the student. The eight or nine TA's to deal with the sweet, but crazy kids, could go 2:1 in (just fifth grade in my school) classrooms, where the kids may learn a little better. Better outcome for both groups of students, but can't do that, we have to have kids restrained (with hands) during an end of year presentation that kids put together. Sounds like problem solved?

Half of the fifth grade classrooms in my rich arse district needed TWO handlers per room for the sweet, but abjectly unqualified kids, who can't eat lunch by themselves let alone be worried about diagramming sentences. I'm talking kids that are afraid of bubbles in a fifth grade science lab.

The women asked for this, and they are the vast majority of the school apparatus. *Everyone* else just pays for their misplaced supposed altruism.

I said we could start there, I wasn't saying it was the only issue, but shitty parents, rich and poor, *and* the people that think money is the problem are the root cause. I'm just diagnosing an issue that has been happening for decades, where nobody gives a damn about the impact, but it screws learning for the whole (particularly boys, who have a hard time paying attention until they're... well, enlisted or 25.)

Hope it gets better for her . I just retired after 25 years of teaching/coaching/AD/ and driving a bus… last 5-7 years I was worn/stressed out. Feels good to not have to worry about petty shite daily
