DVC rental for Disney World

Anyone here use dvcrentalstore or David's to rent a DVC villa? Any negatives?

The only negatives with Davids is having to pay the amount up front (11 months in advance) in full. I have also used DVC Rental Store and paid only a deposit up front with the balance later but have never had a bad experience with either one.

Just used David’s for our trip over Mardi Gras. It was very easy and we didn’t have any issues with our reservation. Will be staying at DVC locations from now on

Thank y'all. We are planning to go over Mardi Gras next year.
Would you recommend boardwalk or beach club for a family of 5? 2 adults, kids 17, 6, and 4

If you plan to spend sometime at the pool, I would go with beach club. It's probably my favorite pool in all of Disney World.

I’ve sold my points to dvc rental store one time would do it again and both resorts are nice and a easy walking trip to Epcot and Hollywood studios

We used David’s for our last trip and stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge. Used dvcreservations for our upcoming trip staying at Boardwalk. Similar experience using both. Payment due up front.

If you were going in the spring summer or fall when swimming was more of a guarantee I might say Beach Club but in general Boardwalk will cost you less and is better suited and more in the middle between Epcot and Hollywood Studios making an easy walk to either resort.
Yes, the Beach Club pool is nicer but with a trip in early February there is no real guarantee you will get the best weather to enjoy alot of time at the pool to justify the extra cost and extra distance to hollywood studios.
Now, if you don't plan on heading to Hollywood Studios then that edges back to Beach Club but I wouldn't suggets skipping it..it's a great park.

Couldn't agree more with this post. Too much of a gamble on if your going to be able to use the pool or not which is the main draw of Beach Club. Also, Boardwalk has more dining options available currently and seems like more coming very soon. I think Beach Club only has a handful and they aren't as good as they used to be IMO.

What are the advantages to being a DVC member instead of just using sites like Dave's for when you want to go. I have been looking into joining but I'm really trying to find the pros of being a member.

I use the DVC board on Disboards to find owners that will rent their points directly to you.
Usually $1-$3 per point cheaper than David's.
I have probably done this process 10 or more times with multiple owners with zero problems. Disboards does a great job vetting the owners that post there.

The studios at Boardwalk villas will accommodate the 5 of you but you will need to reserve at the 11 month mark if you are planning on going at a popular time.

We toyed with the idea of purchasing DVC points after renting from owners close to 10 times but now we are glad we didn't.
My youngest of 3 kids is now 13 and Universal is more our speed now.
Had we bought, we would be stuck with maintenance fees on a contract we would no longer use.
Rent points. Life changes where you want to go on vacation.
We went to Disney every year since 2007 and 2022 was our last trip for a very long time, if ever.
It is just too expensive and with Genie+, ruined for us.
If they get rid of Genie+ we may consider going back.

Do you purchase Express Pass at Universal?

Well I think a child is in my near future so I was wondering if it would be a good investment. I remember going when I was a kid and really enjoying it. But for 40k for just the base amount of points, I don't know if it's worth it.

No. Haven’t needed it the 2 times we have been.

I would rent points a couple of times and see how you like it before putting down that money

We do it all the time.
As stated, the downside is paying everything upfront and you can not cancel.
The upside is that you stay at a deluxe resort for nearly half the cost. We love it. It’s also nice when you book 10-11 months out (you have to for the most wanted resorts/room types) and the room is paid in full. Your vacation finally comes and that cost is already taken care of.

There are quite a few but the value of them is really an individual decision. Things like dining and merch discounts or access to DVC lounges isn't going to tip the scale one way or the other.
The biggest advantage is that Disney cannot ever increase the value of your points. The vale of them the time you buy will be the value in 30+ years while the resort/hotel costs continue to rise by around 5%-10% a year and the same goes for renting points.
Look at this post from 2016 on here when points where renting for $12-$14 point and now they're renting for $21-$23 per point. In less than ten years the increase in point rentals is almost has almost doubled.

Personally, for me, with the crazy increase in renting DVC points we have been just saying more off-site and using the money we save to pay for car rentals, individual lightning lanes, genie+ after hours events, etc.
