Though Payton does have a part in this cuz he doesn't use the DEUCE!!! when we need crucial yards, but the DC can't call blitzes, or at least rush, hurry the oppossing QB our D can't stop anybody, and I mean anybody (except JaMarcus Russell). It's too hard to have shootouts every game every Sunday. We would be unstoppable if we had a 15 avg. ranked D. The run would help out too. Geaux Saints

This offseason the Saints have to address Rb. It looks like Payton has figured out how to use Reggie and that involves very little between the tackles. A 1st round pick of a runningback would put too much money in the backfield, but a veteran like what was available this year in C. Benson, R. Johnson, S. Alexander, L. Jordan would have helped the 1st four weeks of the season while Deuce was recovering.

Veterans that might get cut this offseason or are free agents that could help run inside could be A. Green (Houston), E. James (Arizona), R. Williams (Miami), and B. Jacobs (New York). A guy I always liked and has not gotten much of a chance in Washington is Betts. He would compliment Bush well. Though best case scenario is Deuce plays out the rest of the year healthy and is ready to go next year. It has always been said that year 2 after the surgery is better.

That all sounds good...but what do we need ANOTHER RB for if SP doesn't run the ball?? I would put all focus on defense and special teams. The Saints offense is 9th in the league in points per game and the defense is 24th in points allowed. How does a running back, or lack there of, become the center of blame here??

He does not run the ball much because the Saints are not effective running the ball,+ always playing catch up with the score cause the D sucks. Not because does not like to run, come on.

Inability to control the clock with the run game is bad for the defense. Lack of a running game is why the defense in 07 looked so much worse than 06 despite the personnel remaining practically the same. It also makes it hard to sit on a lead which is why you've heard the phrase "4 minute offense" multiple times this year.

Injuries happen, but it's safe to say that the Saints don't have one of the better Strength and Conditioning programs in the NFL. Just add that to the list of things this franchise needs to overhaul, but as long as clueless Tom Benson is the owner, I don't think you'll see consistant winning seasons. He just doesn't know enough about the game to hire competent individuals that DO......
