NM sounds nice but I just got back from northern NM in Oct on a mule deer hunt. Plus wife hates being near the Mexico border

First thing I would do is buy your wife a map so she doesn’t say anything that stupid in decent company. New Mexico is one of the big states.

But if I wanted to fly from Baton Rouge to hike somewhere in March I would take the direct flight to DC and go to harpers ferry, WV. It’s post card pretty with plenty of nice hiking and incredible history, not buried in snow in March, and all the Mexicans are tactfully hidden away in restaurant kitchens.
