Uh...people weren't mad about E3 because there weren't explosions, dude
You clearly didn't read all the bitching about not including the mission to the school with the bloater. It was a common meme.
But even the minor criticism said "yeah I thought the story was OK but could have been done more quickly" Why? To have more action.
There's a population who REALLY wants this to be an action series when it's clearly not that.

To be fair, I did eventually check out of that thread because it was the same stupid shite over and over by the same parties.

I mean, the inherent setting means there will be action at some points. But I am in the camp of E3 being an almost complete waste. I could've done without the gay shite, but that didn't bother me as much as wasting that much screen time on a story that didn't ultimately matter. Sure, the episode moved things forward in the sense that Joel finally got a working vehicle, but that could've been done in a fraction of the time. And Bill/Frank dying in the end made it even worse for me, since we got all this backstory that ended up being almost completely irrelevant since the characters don't move forward with the story (I am sure we'll see them again in a flashback at some point, but still..).
So I didn't need "more action." What I needed was "more relevant story."
shite, I wish we'd have gotten more insight on Joel and Ellie's travels to Wyoming outside of a small pitstop in KC. Like it's been mentioned, I don't need to see them shitting in the woods and hunting things for weeks on end, but we just jumped forward three months and that journey seems fairly significant. I get that if that's what happens in the game then it is what it is (although I have no idea...I am game ignorant). But it still would've been nice to see other things during their travels literally halfway across the country.

And honestly, everyone who has ever tried to adapt a video game to the screen and went that heavy on the action has failed. Because it becomes monotonous at best.

I didn't want more action. I wanted it to move the story along. They could have been traveling on their route or stopping at Bill's place to get the supplies.
