missed connections are too common

I schedule my own flights, and I have missed a single connection due to weather in the Northeast in almost 20 years of frequent flying.

I also don't leave 40 minutes of time to connect, and avoid northern and northeastern airports that are subject to capacity restrictions, weather delays, etc. I also avoid anything smaller than a 737, which are more likely to be culled from on time departures due to lower passenger count. I'm more spoiled than most since I've lived in 2 hub cities (IAH and ATL) my entire consulting life.

I'd rather connect in Frankfurt or SFO than IAD/EWR/ORD any, any, day of the week.

Living in hub cities and talking of Frankfurt means you're talking international, in which case I agree. I was referencing domestic. Is a slightly more comfortable seat and glass of champagne worth an extra 3 hours trip time and even the slightest risk of spending the night in an airport? I have lounge access through credit cards so lounge through status is mostly irrelevant, but there's no airport seat on earth more comfortable than my couch at home. The fastest way there is the best option.
