Dad used to make them from rebar and wheel rims, some copper tubing and nozzles. Spray paint them with heat resistant silver paint. They were not ugly, just obviously not a commercially made product. Worked better than available products in the 60's-80's though.
Similar to this but neater and tidier (Dad was a Civil Engineer so details mattered to him):
