I am going on a church mission trip to central Honduras the end of March. We will be flying in and out of Palmerola airport. Anything around there recommended to see, or restaurants to eat at?

I did that in high school.

From how I remember it, I wouldn’t venture too far into local bars and restaurants.

I regret not going. I spent approximately 2 weeks in Honduras in 1998. We stayed primarily in San Pedro Sula and Siguatepeque, but to add on:

Celaque National Park

Coffee and fruits are incredible. Lots of papusa, pastelitos, and tajadas (fried plantains and cheese) are served with lots of dishes and are very good. Lots of Salva Vida beer. Extremely muggy and humid.

We were warned to steer clear from El Salvador.

If you get a chance go to Roatan, my friend Juan Carlos is the best tour guide on the Island.
The Island is only 5 miles wide and 40 miles long.
